The "Walhalla" is considered the pinnacle of the artistic creations
of Bavaria’s King Ludwig I, who ruled from 1825 to 1848.
The exterior architecture of the Walhalla is based on the Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens, but not copied.
The name "Walhalla" comes from Ancient Icelandic and means "Hall of the Dead." This means that only deceased great personalities from the Germanic language family may be included, either as a memorial tablet or in the form of busts.
At present there are 192 memorials of "great German speakers" in this hall of fame. The last to be added was the bust of Carl Friedrich Gauss on September 9th 2007. It is planned to add Edith Stein in 2008 and Heinrich Heine in 2009.

Please note: In the pre-saison (2. April to 24. April) we only drive every saturday and sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to the "Walhalla".

The Stone Bridge ship dock is located in the Thunderdorfer street near the famous Regensburger Wurstkuchel.
