Strudelrundfahrt
Strudelrundfahrt - Details
NEW: "Audio-Guide" via speakers on board of the ship
"Strudel" is an old word for "spinning around".
The "Strudel" is the name for the whirlpools of water in the rapids created by the Stone Bridge. They are caused by the massive foundations of the bridge supports forcing the water through the very tight spaces between them.
The water flows at different speeds between the supports, and just after the bridge, the whirlpools are formed. In old times, the ship people feared them, and they have capsized a few boats over the years.
When the water is no deeper than 2.30 metres, the trip takes you through under the Stone Bridge and farther along to view the ancient cityline. If the water is too high, the trip takes you downriver and around other parts of the city, reaching the mouth of the Regen river.
